Decision Record

1. The GEASSA Secretariat will issue letters of support to the originators of approved projects.

2. The GEASSA meetings will be held every 6 months.

3. The GEASSA secretariat will attempt to time meetings at the same time as other aviation meetings to attract a broader audience (such as GREPECAS or LACAC).

4. The next meeting will be held in Panama.

5. The meetings will rotate between Cartagena and other locations. Every Second meeting will be held in Cartagena.

6. The host country will take the lead on developing the meeting agenda and handling meeting logistics working with Dr. Sergio Paris and Poppy Vineberg.

7. A steering committee consisting of the host country, Canada and Colombia will be formed to organizing meetings.

8. Canada will send representatives to the next GREPECAS meeting to work on developing more GEASSA members and partners in order to increase the participation at GEASSA meetings.

9. Canada will work with ICAO to identify priority areas for the Region.

10. The United States will submit Inter-American Development Bank packages that have received funding so that the GEASSA secretariat can develop guidance material to assist member countries in the funding process.

11. GEASSA will develop a calendar of training events in the region to avoid the duplication of efforts.

12. GEASSA member countries and organisations will share information on testing and training mechanisms related to the English proficiency for air traffic controllers (and pilots) they have developed in order to share best practices.

13. ICAO will note the recommendation to create a Regional Map of known risks that may affect the effective implementation of SMS

14. GEASSA Members are encouraged to lobby their Ministers of Finance to include Aviation Safety and Security in Country Assistance Strategy to encourage the funding of aviation projects by Multilateral Development Banks.

15. GEASSA participants are invited to comment on ways to improve the GEASSA website. This item will be on the next meeting’s agenda.

16. GEASSA members are asked to send their contact information to Dr. Nubia Ramirez of Colombia to begin the Point of contact Network for the exchange of aviation security information.

17. The United States and Canada will follow up with their respective Geographic and Cartographic Societies to obtain their support in the Aeronautical charts project.
